Every day of the year, hundreds of enthusiastic surfers head to the district of Lobitos, in the city of Talara, to ride its perfect waves, fish, and enjoy nature.

Talara is one of the eight provinces that make up the Piura Region and has a population of 132,695.

Its economy revolves mainly around oil extraction, and the Talara Refinery Modernization Project (PMRT) is expected to bring further growth and development to the area. Fishing is another key source of income, thanks to the wide variety of marine life found where cold and tropical currents meet, drawing visitors eager to practice water sports and enjoy the beaches of Cabo Blanco, El Ñuro, and Máncora.

Amid the dense algarrobo forests that blanket its perpetually dry ravines, you may hear the song of the chisco or the soña or, with a bit of luck, catch sight of the Peruvian Plantcutter, an endemic bird species now facing extinction.
